Neal Allar comes to Taft after a decade of work in higher education. He holds a Ph.D. from Cornell University in French and Francophone literature and has taught language and literature at the University of Burgundy in France, Amherst College, Cornell, and Tsinghua University in Beijing. His research on Francophone poetry has been published in a number of French and American scholarly journals. As an undergraduate at Amherst College, Neal double-majored in English and French, and he was also captain of the baseball team, earning All-NESCAC, All-New England, and Academic All-American honors. Between college and graduate school, he served for two seasons as an assistant baseball coach at Amherst and as a private hitting and catching instructor. At Taft, Neal teaches French and assists with varsity baseball and JV boys’ ice hockey. He lives on CPT 2 with his wife and their daughters.
