Biography:

Alex joined the Taft community from the Maret School in Washington, D.C. With prior teaching experience at the Allen Stevenson School in New York City and as History Department Chair at Indian Mountain School for eight years, Alex brings a wealth of knowledge to the classroom. He excels at course design and instruction, having developed and taught a variety of history electives such as the History of New York City, the Civil War and Reconstruction, World War I, World War II, and Rock and Roll. A graduate of Berkshire School and St. Lawrence University, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in history and was a standout football player, Alex furthered his education with a master’s in the teaching of social studies from Columbia University Teachers College in 2014. At Taft, Alex is a dedicated history teacher, assistant football coach, boys’ junior varsity hockey coach, and dorm parent. As an assistant football coach, Alex has produced a remarkable track record, with 34 linemen from the program advancing to play college football, including 19 at the Division I level and one currently in the National Football League. He resides on campus with his wife, Ellen, and daughter.
