The Old-Fashioned Taftie

An all-time classic suggested by Larry Kass ‘80

Do not try this at home—or anywhere else—if you are under 21.

Ingredients:

  • 1 sugar cube
  • 3 dashes Angostura bitters
  • 1 teaspoon water
  • 2 ounces Elijah Craig Small Batch Bourbon

Preparation: Place sugar cube in old-fashioned glass and saturate with bitters, add water. Muddle until dissolved. Fill the glass with ice cubes and add whiskey. Garnish with orange slice, and a cocktail cherry.

Served: On the rocks; poured over ice

Drinkware: Old-Fashioned glass

“When you get right down to it, the Bourbon Old Fashioned is little more than a slug of whiskey, seasoned and sweetened. Yet for all of its suave simplicity, the drink remains as relevant today as it was when it first captured drinkers’ hearts 200 years ago” —Larry Kass '80
