ONE DAY OF GIVING
Alumni from as near as Watertown and as far as Singapore and Australia answered Taft's 2018 Day of Giving call.
"We were hoping to exceed last year's total of 501 individual donors," said Annual Fund Director Kelsey Kerr P '07. "It is a testament to the strength of the Taft community that we went well beyond our goal, logging gifts from 530 individual donors. Those gifts represent commitments from every constituent category, from alumni and current parents, to grandparents, former parents, and friends."
Kerr credits Taft's Student Telethon with boosting support for the Day of Giving. Twelve current student volunteers made 611 calls to alumni over the course of two hours.
"Student participation means a lot, and gives alumni the opportunity to experience the energy and vibrancy that are hallmarks of campus life today," said Kerr.
2018 Day of Giving gifts ranged in size from $1 to $25,000. Taft's current parents made up almost exactly one-third of the $274,005 raised during the May 1 campaign.
"It was really an impressive number that represents the extraordinary generosity of Taft families," noted Parents' Fund Director Amy Gorman P'12,'14. "Our current parents are consistently supportive of the work we do, which directly benefits their children in every aspect of their lives at Taft."
Gorman adds that the Day of Giving was marked by a spirit of fun and competition. Families representing the Class of 2019 led the way in participation, with the Classes of 2018 and 2020 in a tie for second place.
Alumni also engaged in friendly competition, with classes competing by decade to earn seat plaques in Bingham Auditorium. The class winners were:
The overall winning class of all alumni: The Class of 1999, with the most individual gifts made during the 2018 Day of Giving.
Of course, the biggest winners are the students who benefit from the loyal support of the Taft community.
