Morning Meeting on Thursday, October 10 was dedicated to celebrating excellence and scholarship. Sixteen students were inducted into the Cum Laude Society, while others were recognized for their performance on the Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test (PSAT).

Morning Meeting on Thursday, October 10 was dedicated to celebrating excellence and scholarship. Sixteen students were inducted into the Cum Laude Society, while others were recognized for their performance on the Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test (PSAT).

Founded in 1908, the Cum Laude Society is the secondary school national scholarship society. It parallels the Phi Beta Kappa and Sigma Xi societies at the collegiate level. A maximum of 20% of the Senior Class may be elected into membership in the Cum Laude Society. Today, Taft inducted 16 members of the Class of 2019 into the Society, based on their academic records from both their mid and upper middle years. They represent the top 9.7% of the class and are:

In addition, the following students received Commendation from the National MeritScholarship Program for their outstanding performance last year on the PSAT,finishing in the top 2.1% of all 1.6 million test-takers.

Three students were also recognized as semifinalists in the 2020 National Merit Scholarship Program for their outstanding performance last year on the PSAT, finishing in the top 1% of all test takers. They are now eligible to apply for National Merit scholarship dollars.

Finally, Taft’s Ranking Scholars for the 2018-2019 academic year, with the highest unweighted averages in their classes are: 

Lance Zhang, Class of 2022, 96.58

Benjamin Le, Class of 2021, 97.92

Chloe Ye, Class of 2020, 97.08
