Opening Day 2019: A Campus Where You Can Do Anything

Opening Day 2019: A Campus Where You Can Do Anything
Debra Meyers

The opening of school is often marked by high energy, great anticipation, a few nerves, and a warm and wonderful welcome from Headmaster William R. MacMullen '78 and the school's student leaders, our Co-Head Monitors. This year's welcome addresses from Mr. Mac, Maggie Robertshaw '20 and Diky Izmirlian '20 did not disappoint.

"Every one of you has a place here," said Maggie. "This ability to exist in the same place—to experience differently—yet to give and receive the support which you would a family member illustrates that Taft celebrates when we see diversity of thought opinion and interest on our campus because it makes life here that much richer."

Diky gave new students three pieces of advice: Try something new; be yourself; be nice. "In a world in which you can be anything," said Diky, "on a campus on which you can do anything, BE NICE."
