Meet Lane

Where are you from?
Needham, Massachusetts

What kinds of things have you been involved in during your time at Taft?
I have played varsity soccer and was the team captain this year; I have served on two class committees and am now a school monitor. As a mentor for younger members of the community, I served as a dorm monitor, an I Block teacher, and a new student mentor. I engaged with my personal passions as an EcoMon, a member of the Every Mind Matters board, and as a student ambassador for Relay for Life. I have also served as co-head of the Jewish Student Organization and the Democrats of Taft club.

What is/was your favorite class (or classes) at Taft, and why?
I loved Honors Topics in US History: The 1960s, primarily because of my incredible teacher. Mr. A truly inspires me to continue my passion for history as he has for his. The book we read was also fantastic because it combined nonfiction with an engaging writing style. Doing the homework felt less of an obligation and more of a desire.

What is your favorite spot on campus?
MacMullen Field, where the boys’ varsity soccer team plays.

What has been your most memorable Taft moment?
Winning the Boys’ Varsity Soccer Program's first-ever NEPSAC Class A championship.

What is one piece of advice you’d give new or prospective Taft students?
Try as many things as possible and meet as many people as possible. Do what you want and what makes you happy, and branch out.

What does it mean to be a Rhino?
Being a Rhino means showing up to contribute every day. Whether that’s in the classroom, on the athletic fields, in the dance studios, or simply in the hallways, it’s important to show up for your classmates and your faculty. We all have such a short time here on this campus that you don’t want waste a minute of it.
